Yarkshire Gamer Podcast - Episode 7 - Nick Skinner - If the Lord Spares Us

The Yarkshire Gamer Podcast just keeps rolling on and this week the YG train stops at the Toofatlardies Station where I speak to the legend that is Nick Skinner about his wargaming life, his views on Big Games and a very personal set of rules, If the Lord Spares Us.

A massive favourite at Yarkshire Gamer we are recreating the Mesopotamia Campaign one game at a time using ITLSU, we started of in Basra, working our way upto the gates of Bagdad, being besieged in Kut and we are currently trying to break the Turkish hold on that town.

I chatted about loads of stuff with Nick from Avocado to Cricket with the occasional mention of Wargaming, Nick made a really great attempt at the 4 minute Challenge before we discussed how he got the first sets of Lardies rules into circulation.

It was also our first sponsored episode and we are very proud to have Yorkshire Airlines on board 😀  So if you fancy going Eh Up and Away on your holiday and you want to stay in Yarkshire at the same time, and let's face it who wouldn't, Yorkshire Airlines could be for you.

Both Nick and I have a family relation who fought in the East during WW1 and its was great to chat about the rules and the period, if you haven't please have a read up on the actions in Mesopotamia, Palestine etc its a fascinating story. The rules themselves are a very reasonable 8 of your English pounds on PDF from the link below,

Thanks to Nick for his time making the Episode, next time I will be speaking with Simon Hall of Mortem et Gloriam fame.

If you missed it on audio or just want to listen again with pictures, the last episode with Fraser from the Von Ketteringham YouTube Channel is out on Utubes, thanks for listening.

Yarkshire Gamers May 2021 Wargames Update

It seems to come round quicker each month, here we are at the end of May and it's time for the usual monthly update. As social media interactions continue to reduce when it comes to blogs they are massively on the up with other platforms, the golden age of the blog is well and truly over.

I've found these YouTube / Blog posts a good way to summarise what might have been 4 or 5 posts on the old way of blogging. I'm not ready to turn the lights out on the blog just yet, I still think it's the best format for scenarios and "thinking" pieces so hopefully people will keep visiting.

Above is the video review of the month, 2 new units completed, the Big Pike Block at the top of the page and a unit of Mounted Arquebus.

Whilst my Italian Spearmen nearly made it into the finished pile but didn't quite make it.

I've been a lot more frugal this month with purchases from Gringo 40, Steel Fist and Team Yankee to watch on the video.

Thanks for watching, back next month with another month update, there will be articles on my WW1 British Naval Collection and the build of the Italian Spearmen on the blog over the next week or so.

Troops on Parade - WW1 German Naval

This is the first time that I've covered one of my Naval Collections on Troops on Parade and with the first ever person to person game happening on the table this weekend the opportunity to do these features will drop away.

So first up is the WW1 Germans, 1/2400 scale and mostly GHQ although there are a few WTJ ships along with some Tumbling Dice which I used for the earlier ships. There is a video run through of the collection below.

I've put some choice photos below, full chat and descriptions on the video. The total fleet is 19 Dreadnoughts, 13 Pre Dreadnoughts, 7 Battlecruisers, 7 Armoured Cruisers, 19 Light Cruisers and 81 Destroyers for a total of 146 ships

The famous Battlecruisers including the Goeben which ended up in Turkish hands during the war.

A Nassau class Dreadnought

The Big guns Bayern and Baden

British up next.

Yarkshire Gamer Podcast - Episode 6 - Von Ketteringham - My Wargames Shed

Welcome to the first episode of the second season, not a lot has changed to be honest, its the same mix of Wargames chat and fun with the emphasis on the Big Game.

Todays guest is Fraser the You Tube star of the channel Von Ketteringham, his channel is one of the foremost in the gaming hobby and is a mix of tutorials, army showcases and general hobby chat.

I love Frasers no nonsense approach to his channel, no fireworks and fancy music just a great guy sharing his love for his hobby with his many followers.

VK does a lot of his gaming at his local club in Reigate and they have the room to fit in some big games at their hall. However in recent months he has built a dedicated outdoor building for his hobby.

As usual the show breaks down into the sections you will be familiar with, Fraser has a cracking go at the Yarkshire Gamer Quiz despite his only link to Yorkshire being a weekend out in Leeds with a great kebab !

You can find his channel on the Utubes via the link below

Episode 7 is due for release in 2 weeks time, hope you enjoy this one, give me a sub if you do and then you will never miss another one.
