South London Warlords and Salute a great day was had by all.
I wasn't going to mention it personally, but we won another award down in that there London, Best Large Scale Game, hopefully that's clear enough from the banner 😉
Thanks to Ian Rudd James Cutts , local lads, Abe, Simon, Peter and of course my long suffering gaming side kick Andrew Dickinson for pushing the lead round the table whilst I did front of house.
It was mad busy virtually all day and we had upwards of 30 people around the table at time, I spoke to as many people as I could and had some great chats with people I knew and people I didn't. As a result I saw nothing of the rest of the show, just the table and the gents 😄
Too many to mention all but It was lovely to see Henry Hyde, Creative Writer, Podcaster, Publisher again, looking years younger and whizzing round on his walking sticks with a new lease of life. I met Dave Manley for the first time in person, and he was looking good after a bout of illness. Two of the other three Brews in the Binyard boys where there as well, always good to see Iain Flags of War and the "Face" of Hendos Storm of Steel Wargaming Alex Sotheran himself.
The game itself went well and as usual with Furioso there were some confused faces at the start but after a couple of turns everyone got the hang of it. We had 2,256 28mm figs on the table, which was about 500 more than last time and was a tight squeeze. But this game was about promoting the spectacle of the big game so that's what I wanted anyway. Figs by Perry Miniatures Steel Fist Miniatures Warlord Games Wargames Foundry North Star Military Figures The Assault Group and probably a few more.
The game was a "what if" scenario based on a fictious Relief of the Siege of Forli in 1499, I urge you to look back on previous posts for more detail. The Swiss Pike proved to be the decisive factor as the pushed on in the middle and the Bradford City Pike Block managed to survive.
This is the style of #Wargaming I love and I try, in my own way to push it back into the limelight in the Wargaming world which seems to become more and more focused on skirmish style games.
Anyway, I won't mention it again, but we won an award 🤣
Regards Ken
Yarkshire Gamer

Superb looking game, just top class all round no wonder you won the award, well deserved by the look of it.
ReplyDeleteThanks very much Donnie 😀
DeleteCongratulations Ken!
ReplyDeleteBet that was a considerable logistic effort to get all that kit to Salute...
Neil
Cheers Neil, it was mate, we reached maximum capacity with the wife's Subaru Forester, seats down, we had about an inch of headroom, I didn't buy anything because I'd would have had to post it home 🤣
DeleteNOTE - I've politely engaged with the Anonymous Salute haters on my previous post. I'm just going to delete them on this post. This is about The Yarkshire Gamer table, all the hard work that went into it and the lads who gave up their time to help out.
ReplyDeleteRather than Anonymously moan why don't you get off you're fucking arse and put a game on yourselves and add what you think is missing from the show 😄
Impossible to add what is missing. The traders I want do not attend anymore, it too expensive for them. Since the show has been at the Excel it’s just awful. Terrible, horrible venue where they basically use cattle pens for you to queue in.
DeleteI used to help run Colours for years. Why don’t you fucking well try organising and running a show after getting off your fat northern arse for once. So just FUCK OFF.
🤣😆 anonymous man is angry 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I have been involved in FIASCO show in Leeds for years, but thanks for the suggestion, maybe I should do another one 😉
DeleteIt's such a joy to have a conversation with such a master of wit and repartee, Oscar Wilde will be spinning in his grave at your eloquence 🤣😆🤣
So if someone does not have the same opinion as you they are wrong? Wow!
DeleteI'm more than happy to have a reasonable discussion with anyone, telling me to fuck off is not reasonable, calling me a that (in the post I deleted) is not reasonable.
DeleteAs I said above this post is about the game I took to Salute not about the show itself.
If you want a reasonable conversation quite the childish name calling, identify yourself and make a reasonable point, FFS
Sorry that's Twat bloody autocorrect 🤣
DeleteCrackin game Ken. So many luvvly looking troops on show! Well done to all involved.
ReplyDeleteAnd another award too!
Cheers Ray, don't mention the award though, it's a secret 😉
DeleteShhhh!
DeleteIt was a totally amazing game, Ken, and the award was much deserved. I did come by a couple of times but you were always mobbed by your adoring public! So sorry we didn't get to speak - maybe next time. I gave your game pride of place at the top of my write-up! I can't understand the Salute haters; ok, so it's a show that caters for all manner of games and genres - but what's wrong with that?
ReplyDeleteBrilliant Giles, thanks very much, next time just push your way through shouting "Former Guest on the Podcast" it will part like the sea 😄
DeleteThat game looks superb
ReplyDeleteThanks Neil
DeleteNice one Ken, good to see the Bantams on tour!
ReplyDeleteVery rare for the Bantams to return North with a trophy 🤣
DeleteSplendid looking game, judging by Rays photos and reassuring to hear your numbers, Ive got about 1000 painted Italian wars figures and was umming and ahring about painting another 400 but as I have a 6 x 12 table available too, sounds like I have loads of room! Cant really understand why youre getting grief about Salute though, to be honest?
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Thanks Iain, your progress on the Italian Wars sounds good, I'm pretty sure one of your figs is in one of my Pike Blocks (iirc you sent on as part of the AHPC 😁) The Salute stuff was just wierd, I don't run the show, I'm more tha happy to listen to valid criticism of it, but personal abuse just isn't acceptable, you should have seen what I deleted 😀
